READING, Mass., May 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Physicians Interactive (PI), the leading provider of insight-driven digital engagement solutions for healthcare professionals and consumers, is pleased to announce that PM360 Magazine has named the company's Chairman and CEO Donato Tramuto a top transformational leader in healthcare for his Collaborative IQ approach to resolving one of the industry's biggest challenges: enhancing healthcare access around the world.
"We want to put a spotlight on the exceptional people working in healthcare," stated Anna Stashower, CEO and Publisher of PM360. "We were blown away by not only the number of submissions, but their quality. This industry is blessed with gifted and passionate individuals such as Donato Tramuto who continue to find new ways to revolutionize business models, disrupt the market and improve patients' lives. Ultimately, we feel Donato and the other ELITE Award recipients represent the best of what the industry has to offer."
Tramuto was honored as a 2015 PM360 ELITE Award winner for his significant business accomplishments at PI, which provides life science companies and other healthcare stakeholders with sophisticated digital engagement strategies to reach its network of greater than 3.5 million registered healthcare professionals; and for his visionary leadership of the two non-profit organizations he founded, Health eVillages and The Tramuto Foundation. Both non-profit organizations make resources available to individuals and communities in need through collaborative partnerships in education and healthcare, nationally and internationally.
"It has been a privilege to work with innovative organizations on breakthrough approaches to transforming the practice and business of medicine," said Tramuto. "Using a Collaborative IQ approach, global networks of healthcare stakeholders – including medical professionals, life sciences companies, employers, payers and non-profit organizations – can more seamlessly engage consumers wherever they are to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs and, most importantly, save lives. I am humbled to join these accomplished industry stalwarts who are also receiving the PM360 ELITE Awards."
"Donato inspires those he leads and demonstrates the value of staying focused on the solutions, not just the problems," said Bonnie Schirato, the Chief People Officer at PI. "His vision of transforming healthcare using a Collaborative IQ approach is compelling and clear to everyone with whom he interacts. Another key element of his vision is 'understanding your why,' which we experience on a daily basis at PI. Donato challenges each of us to live our 'why' and then helps guide us to grow not only as professionals, but also as individuals."
Tramuto's mission to transform healthcare around the world started at Caremark, where in the 1980s he championed the development of the first national disease management program for HIV/AIDS. He played an integral role in the HIV/AIDS Arthur Ashe workplace education program launch in 1991, as well as in the launch of a national HIV Provider Network focused on comprehensive disease management.
In 2001, Tramuto founded The Tramuto Foundation, a privately funded non-profit organization based in Ogunquit, Maine. The Tramuto Foundation provides critically needed resources for the underserved and scholarship grants to disadvantaged youths to help improve their chances for success in life. Additionally, the organization supports a number of health-related projects, including the Frannie Peabody Center, the largest community-based HIV/AIDS service organization in Maine.
After suffering severe hearing loss at an early age that required multiple operations, Tramuto has been passionate in helping the hearing impaired. The Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the only museum in Maine devoted exclusively to the exhibition, preservation and interpretation of American Art, has received annual grants from The Tramuto Foundation over three years for an experimental program for hearing-impaired children. The Tramuto Foundation also provided a grant for the purchase of assisted-listening devices for the hearing impaired at the Ogunquit Playhouse.
In 2011, Tramuto co-founded Health eVillages, a non-profit organization in partnership with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization. Health eVillages provides state-of-the-art mobile health technology, including medical reference and clinical decision support resources, to medical professionals in the most challenging clinical environments around the world.
In recognition of his impressive and transformational global work with Health eVillages, the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization honored Tramuto with the prestigious Ripple of Hope Award. He received the award in December alongside fellow 2014 honorees Robert De Niro, Hillary Clinton and Tony Bennett.
Most recently, Tramuto received an honorary doctorate of Humane Letters from University of Massachusetts Lowell in recognition of his numerous achievements, especially his commitment to healthcare access and quality and furthering the life sciences industry through leadership, innovation, motivation, mentorship and philanthropy.
"Donato's passion and personal commitment to what we do is unmatched, as well as his belief that if we 'get our culture right, the business will come,'" Schirato said. "Transforming healthcare – not just growing the bottom line – by empowering clinicians and engaging patients around the world will improve patient outcomes and save lives. That is truly Donato's life passion."
ELITE winners are profiled in PM360's May 2015 issue and will be honored at a celebratory cocktail party on July 14th at 6:30 PM. The event will be held at The Standard, High Line rooftop bar in New York City's Meatpacking District.
