Physician-researcher named a distinguished fellow by American Association of Immunologists

MANHASSET, N.Y., May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Association of Immunologists (AAI) has named Betty Diamond, MD, professor at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, to its inaugural class of distinguished fellows. The AAI, an organization founded in 1913 dedicated to advancing the field of immunology and fostering development opportunities for researchers, recognizes active members who have served for 25 or more years for their renowned careers and outstanding scientific contributions, including their service to the organization and immunology community.

Dr. Diamond, an autoimmune disease expert and lupus researcher, has served as an AAI member since 1980, and was president of the association from 2009-2010. She was officially recognized along with other seasoned investigators across the country during AAI's annual meeting, which took place from May 9-13 in San Diego, CA. Election as a Distinguished Fellow will now occur annually and is among the highest honors bestowed by AAI.

At the Feinstein Institute, Dr. Diamond's laboratory studies DNA-reactive B cells in the autoimmune disease systemic lupus erythematosus. Dr. Diamond and her researchers design studies to provide new strategies to protect against this illness as well as other autoimmune diseases.
