Phusion Projects Employees Volunteer at Maryland Food Bank, Donation Provides 10,000 Meals to the State's Hungry
CHICAGO, May 18, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A local team from Phusion Projects, LLC, manufacturer of Four Loko, volunteered their time last week at the Maryland Food Bank, helping to prepare backpacks of food delivered to school children for weekend meals. The team worked diligently to complete the 1,300 needed packs, when a group their size would typically produce 800-900 packs in the same time frame. Additionally, Phusion Projects presented the organization with a $5,000 donation.

"We are very grateful to Phusion Projects for both their volunteer work here at the Maryland Food Bank and for their generous gift," said Deborah Flateman, CEO, Maryland Food Bank. "Some corporations donate time, some donate money but the ones who really understand the depth of the state's problem for hungry families do both. This gift can allow us to provide 10,000 meals to the hungry in our state. We thank them for their wonderful support."
"It's important to me that Phusion Projects gives back to local communities in as many ways as possible," said Chris Hunter, one of the company's co-founders. "We want to do more than just provide donations; we believe hard work can make a difference. In Maryland, our involvement meant that all students affected by this issue would have the food they needed for the weekend."
The Maryland Food Bank is a member of the nation's food bank network, Feeding America, and distributes food through a network of more than 600 soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters and other community food providers across the state. The organization distributed 18.6 million pounds of food in fiscal year 2010, and anticipates that number increasing to 20.1 million pounds in fiscal year 2011.
This is Phusion Projects' fifth food bank volunteer day and donation in 2011. The initiative will continue once a month throughout the year in select communities. Additionally, the company encourages further community involvement by offering an employee matching program for contributions made to non-profit organizations.
