WASHINGTON, Feb. 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) today unveiled new advertising as part of its "From Hope to Cures" campaign, highlighting the stories of patients, families and biopharmaceutical researchers.
The 2016 ad collection utilizes the themes of HOPE, COURAGE, SOLVABLE and ACHIEVABLE. These themes build on last year's ads focused on POSSIBLE, CURABLE and POWER.
"Every patient has a story and 'From Hope to Cures' helps ensure those poignant stories are at the center of discussions about health care," said PhRMA executive vice president, public affairs, Josephine Martin. "Innovative medicines have transformed the trajectory of many diseases and conditions, helping patients live longer and healthier lives. We need to ensure our health care system recognizes the value of innovation to continue this progress against devastating and costly diseases like Alzheimer's and cancer."
The first ad in the new series features Rhys, a five-year-old living with type 1 diabetes, as the face of HOPE. Diagnosed at a young age, Rhys and the other nearly 29 million Americans living with diabetes have more hope than ever thanks to 180 medicines in development by biopharmaceutical companies.
The video "I'm Fighting Back" complements Rhys' ad and features his story, along with Jamie who is fighting a rare blood cancer and Jen, a researcher, who wakes up every day working to find new treatments and cures for patients.
The collection of ads will be featured in print, radio, digital and social channels throughout the year. Advertisements and promotion will run on a variety of platforms in Washington, D.C. and select states.
"From Hope to Cures" launched in January 2014 to highlight the value biopharmaceutical innovation provides to patients, society and the economy. The campaign website features stories of real patients and researchers, provides data and information on fighting diseases and an interactive map shows the economic contributions of the industry.
