Phoenix Patriot Foundation Raises Veteran Amputees to New Heights; Texas Fundraiser To Support Mount Kilimanjaro Expedition for U.S. Combat Veterans
HOUSTON, March 11, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Phoenix Patriot Foundation will host the Houston Benefit for Mount Kilimanjaro, Saturday, April 5, 2014, at The Houston Club in Houston, TX. Boasting spectacular, panoramic views from the heart of the city, the benefit will raise funds for Navy SEAL veterans to summit Mount Kilimanjaro this summer.
The Phoenix Patriot Foundation, 501(c)(3), supports critically wounded veterans by developing uniquely tailored programs, via a three-step process of Recovery Through Challenges, Reintegration, and Reengagement that matches a veteran's passion with a realistic plan of action. As part of Recovery Through Challenges, two double amputee Navy SEAL veterans, Bo Reichenbach and Dan Cnossen, will climb Mount Kilimanjaro with the assistance of robotic prosthetics. The week long journey via the rugged Machame route will be lead by Sean Burch, a top outdoor expert who holds the current world record for fastest ascent up Mount Kilimanjaro (5 hours, 28 minutes). Burch is a cast member of Ultimate Survival Alaska on the National Geographic Channel, alongside Phoenix Patriot Foundation founder, Jared Ogden.
Bo Reichenbach was critically injured by an improvised explosive device in July 2012, while serving in Afghanistan. Bo was awarded the Purple Heart just two days after arriving back to the United States. He has since undergone over 20 medical procedures, but continues to conquer his path of recovery. Dan Cnossen, on his third deployment to Afghanistan, sustained near life-ending injuries from an improvised explosive device in September 2009. Currently, Dan is a member of the U.S. Paralympic Biathlon Team, representing the USA in the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.
By assisting veterans like Bo and Dan, the Phoenix Patriot Foundation enables our heroes to return to service within their communities and nation. Echoing the charity ethos, veterans helping veterans, the Foundation aims to offset the gap between support provided by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs and what veterans need, so that no wounded service member is ever left behind.
