Phoenix House to Honor Sheila Nevins, President, HBO Documentary Films, at 2015 Public Service Award Dinner on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Cipriani 42nd Street
NEW YORK, Jan. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Phoenix House, a leading nonprofit provider of substance abuse prevention, treatment, and recovery support services, will hold its annual Public Service Award Dinner on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York. First presented in 1979, the Public Service Award honors exceptional men and women whose achievements and service to society inspire young people in their journey to lead healthy and substance-free lives. This year, the event will honor Sheila Nevins, President, HBO Documentary Films.
Since its inception, the Phoenix House Public Service Award Dinner has been a premier benefit in the New York City philanthropic community. This year's honoree, Sheila Nevins, has produced hundreds of documentaries for HBO and has won 26 individual Primetime Emmy Awards, more than any other person. During her tenure, HBO's documentaries have won 21 Academy Awards. In 2008, Nevins served as Executive Producer for HBO's groundbreaking Addiction, a 14-part series aimed at helping Americans understand addiction as a treatable disease.
A leading source of revenue for Phoenix House, the Phoenix House Public Service Award Dinner has been held 29 times and has raised nearly $20 million to benefit Phoenix House's 120 pioneering treatment and recovery programs. Previous honorees include former First Lady, Nancy Reagan, Chairman and CEO, American Express, Kenneth I. Chenault, and President and CEO, Viacom, Philippe P. Dauman.
This year's event will be chaired by Jeffery Bewkes, Chairman & CEO, Time Warner Inc., Richard Plepler, CEO, HBO, and Josh Sapan, President and CEO, AMC Networks. The event will begin with cocktails at 6:30 PM at Cipriani 42nd Street, followed by dinner and the award ceremony.
Phoenix House provides a wide range of outpatient and residential treatment options for adults and teens, including special programs for at-risk youth, mothers with children, and veterans. The flagship Phoenix House Academies for youth provide intensive residential treatment alongside full-time academic education, empowering teens to find and sustain long-term recovery.
