PHMC Awards 35 Keystone Historic Preservation Grants
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission has awarded $500,000 in Keystone Historic Preservation grants to help organizations in 19 counties.
The commission awarded 35 grants selected from 95 eligible applications. Grant amounts ranged from $5,725 to $25,000.
The grant program provides funds for planning, acquisition and rehabilitation of historic properties deemed eligible for or listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The program traditionally supplies construction grants to non-profit or municipal governments which operate publicly accessible historic properties.
The program's guidelines were revised to support smaller project-development activities rather than construction awards so a larger number of projects and people would benefit.
Eligible projects include National Register nominations, architectural drawings, condition assessments, archaeology, and community and regional plans for historic preservation activities.
Grants are available at two levels of funding: requests of $10,000 and below that do not require matching funds, and requests of $10,001-$25,000 that require a 50-percent match with either cash or in-kind support.
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Visit the commission online at www.phmc.state.pa.us.
