PHILADELPHIA, March 12, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Teamsters Local 502 will kick off the creation of a new scholarship fund with a gala event at the recently revamped Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House next month to raise money to help fund post-secondary educational opportunities for children of members as well as Philadelphia public school students.
Local 502, also known as the Commonwealth Association of School Administrators (CASA), is hosting the April 4th event as a way of celebrating three decades of Teamster involvement in the city's public school system. Mike Clark, a long-time IBT representative based in the Philadelphia area, will be honored at the gala. CASA represents more than 550 school administrators who work in the School District of Philadelphia.
"The purpose of the scholarship fund is to promote the union's support of public education as well as to the sons and daughters of our Teamster members," said Dr. Robin Cooper, President of Local 502/CASA. "Improving educational opportunities, especially for inner-city students, is paramount."
Tickets for the event are $75, and can be purchased online via Eventbrite at https://bit.ly/2Hb4K2Y. For information on program advertising and donation opportunities, contact [email protected]. The first scholarships will be handed out later this year.
