Phillips Charitable Organizations Helps Single Mother and Daughter Fight Cancer
Two classes away from her Associates degree, a single mother learns her child had a rare form of cancer. Phillips Charitable grant helps complete degree and continue treatments.
NEW YORK, Nov. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Cquiana Bell of Orlando is two classes away from her Associates degree at Valencia College.
She also has a daughter with a rare form of childhood cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma. Only 250 children a year are diagnosed with this form of cancer. Her daughter has had five surgeries to remove tumors.
The time away from work to care for her daughter took its toll.
Ms. Bell switched her major from psychology to accounting which cost her some credits but will pay off better financially longer term. In the meantime she is working part time at Walt Disney World.
Karen and Charles Phillips Charitable Organizations provided a grant to help Ms. Bell finish her degree and get started on her Bachelors while continuing the treatments for her daughter.
