Phillips Academy Andover Selects Canvas as New Learning Management System

ANDOVER, Mass., June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Instructure today announced that Phillips Academy Andover, the nation's oldest private boarding school, has selected Canvas as its learning management system (LMS). After weighing a number of options to provide a better learning experience at Andover, the school selected the cloud-based platform for its intuitive, easy-to-use experience.

"The Canvas platform is fairly intuitive and gentle, even for teachers who typically shy away from online tools," said Christopher Odden, math instructor and chair of Andover's Academic Committee on Technology. "The interface supports many different teaching styles, but it also serves as an invitation to try new techniques. Canvas provides several convenient ways of interacting with students. Established in 1778, Andover attracts youth from every quarter on a need-blind basis. Its 1,100 students represent 36 countries and nearly every state in the U.S. Among its alumni are George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Dick Wolf, Olivia Wilde, Dana Delany, Bill Belichick and Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Canvas K-12 is a one-stop shop LMS that helps teachers easily manage assessments, grading, state standards, analytics and other teaching tools all in one place. The platform is designed to remove technological barriers that often impede instruction in its purest form. It speeds up what can often be laborious administrative processes and helps educators get back to what they do best. Canvas K-12 also aims to close the loop around each student by enabling communication and visibility for parents and other teachers, as well.
