Philips Names Recipients of Its 2010 Impact Awards
Awards recognize health systems for impacting the quality and cost of care delivery
ANDOVER, Mass., Dec. 9, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced today the recipients of its 2010 Impact Awards for Enterprise Patient Informatics Solutions (EPIS). Impact Award recipients are selected annually by a panel of healthcare leaders from the eICU Research Institute to recognize the effective implementation of Philips EPIS solutions to impact the quality and cost of care delivery.
Presented at the company's annual EPIS Users Group meeting, the awards covered four categories: the eICU® Clinical Impact Award, the eICU Financial Impact Award, the Emergin Impact Award and the Intellivue Clinical Information Portfolio (ICIP) Impact Award. Also presented at the meeting was the Cindy Gregory eXcellence in Leadership Award, which is given annually to honor outstanding eICU operational leadership.

The award categories and recipients include:
eICU Clinical Impact Award – Inova Health System (Fairfax, VA)
The recipient of the eICU Clinical Impact Award, Inova Health System, demonstrated an effective care delivery model for enhancing public safety during mass casualty events through their presentation, "Emergency Response and Mobile Telemedicine: A Collaboration in Disaster Preparedness." Success was evident in their expanded use of the eICU Program for triage and consultation which extended beyond an initial three hospital pilot to a nine hospital deployment as part of a Department of Defense surge capacity exercise.
eICU Financial Impact Award – Baptist Health South Florida (Miami, FL)
Baptist Health South Florida received the eICU Financial Impact Award for improving the delivery of care within the health system as demonstrated in their presentation, "The Perfect Pairing: The Transfer Center and the eICU Center Leveraging Resources." Central coordination of patient flow and sharing of resources yielded improved outcomes and more efficient access to care. Through early clinical intervention and follow-up, hundreds of lives were saved while significantly reducing patients' length of stay. The annualized cost savings impact from the eICU Center and Transfer Center were estimated to exceed $15 million.
Emergin Impact Award – Valley Medical Center (Renton, WA)
The Emergin Impact Award was presented to Valley Medical Center for increasing both the average daily census and parent satisfaction in its 13-bed pediatric unit. The hospital's winning presentation, titled "Improving Patient Safety and Parent Satisfaction in a Community Hospital/ Pediatric Unit," displayed how the implementation of Emergin products has resulted in a significant and positive impact on hospital operations.
ICIP Impact Award – St. Joseph's Healthcare (Hamilton, ON)
St. Joseph's Healthcare received the ICIP Impact Award for reducing bloodstream infections and ventilator-associated pneumonia through its use of the IntelliVue Clinical Information Portfolio (ICIP). In its presentation, titled "Leading and Transforming Care Using Technology through Implementation of Clinical Advisories in the IntelliVue Clinical Information Portfolio," St. Joseph's Healthcare documented how its operations have improved since implementing the ICIP solution.
eXcellence in Leadership Award – Carol Olff, MSN, RN, CCRN; eICU Operations Manager, John Muir Health, (Walnut Creek, CA)
The eXcellence in Leadership Award was presented to Carol Olff to honor her outstanding operational leadership with the eICU research project, "Development and Implementation of an Evidence-based, Cross-campus, Ventilator Weaning Protocol and Physician Order Set and its Effect on Ventilator Length of Stay on Patients who are Mechanically Ventilated in Six Critical Care Units."
