The $100,000 grant, which is funded over a two-year period by Philips, is intended to encourage young investigators in the early stages of their careers to pursue basic and clinical research related to resuscitation. The American Heart Association-Philips Resuscitation Fellowship Award will allow Dr. Teodorescu to continue her research into the epidemiology of sudden cardiac arrest. Additionally, she will be able to focus on factors associated with ventricular fibrillation and cardiac death syndromes, among other cardiovascular-related subjects.
"Philips is a longtime supporter of the advancement of resuscitation research," said Derek Smith, senior vice president and general manager, Therapeutic Care, Philips Healthcare. "With the AHA fellowship award, it is our honor to support thought leaders in their research that aims to save lives within multiple communities."
Dr. Teodorescu will be presented with the Fellowship Award on November 12, 2011, at the Resuscitation Science Symposium (ReSS) meeting, which is held each year in conjunction with the AHA's Scientific Sessions. This year's meeting will take place in Orlando, Florida, at the Orange County Convention Center.
