Philadelphia's Judge Moss Participating in Two Asbestos Conferences
PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Common Pleas Judge Sandra Mazer Moss will join a group of other respected jurists participating in asbestos litigation conferences in Philadelphia and Marina del Rey, Calif., HB Litigation Conferences CEO Tom Hagy has announced.
The first program, "Asbestos Litigation: A Crash Course for Associates," will take place at The Hub Cira Centre at 30th Street Station in Philadelphia on Feb. 24, 2010.
The second, the "Third Annual Emerging Trends in Asbestos Litigation" conference will take place in Marina del Rey, just outside of Los Angeles, on March 3-5, 2010.
"We're proud to have Judge Moss back to share her unique perspectives on managing complex litigation, drawing on her years of experience overseeing asbestos, lead paint, pharmaceutical and other mass tort actions," Hagy said.
Former publisher of Mealey Publications Inc. and Vice President at LexisNexis, Hagy formed HB just over one year ago. He and his team added judicial roundtables, such as the one Judge Moss is joining, to the company's legal educational programming. "Judge Moss is consistently one of our most colorful and candid faculty members," Hagy said.
It was also one year ago that Judge Moss resumed her role as head of the Complex Litigation Center, the court's mass torts program. Moss helped found the Complex Litigation Center when she was the asbestos calendar judge.
Judge Moss, a member of the First Judicial District of Philadelphia, supervises a team of judges handling complex mass torts, class actions, and products liability cases. She was the founder and first Supervising Judge of the Complex Litigation Center creating programs in asbestos, DES, L-Tryptophan, lead paint, breast implant, bone screw, Norplant, repetitive stress syndrome, medical malpractice, and general products liability litigation. She received a B.S. in journalism and a J.D. from Temple University and practiced law for eight and a half years specializing in medical malpractice, products liability and toxic torts.
Judge Moss was a founding member and chair of the State Judges Mass Tort Litigation Committee (MTLC founded in 1991), which was the first national organization to develop common approaches to problems in mass tort litigation and for eight years was a standing committee of the Conference of Chief Justices. She also testified before the United States Senate Judiciary Committee concerning legislative and judicial solutions to the asbestos problem nationwide and addressed the Conference of Chief Justices and the Federal Court's Multi-District Litigation Judges on managing complex litigation.
In 2007 Judge Moss received the Philadelphia Bar Association's Justice William J. Brennan Jr. Distinguished Jurist Award which recognizes a jurist who adheres to the highest ideals of judicial service. The following year she was selected as the Beasley School of Law's Certificate of Honor Recipient at Temple University's Founders Day Celebration 2008.
