Philadelphia Trial Lawyer Renews Call For Moratorium On All Amphibious Tourist Duck Boat Operations Following Today's Seattle Deadly Collision
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 24, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Attorney Robert J. Mongeluzzi, expressing his deepest sympathies over the loss of life today in Seattle following a fatal accident involving a duck boat, renewed his call for an immediate moratorium on duck boat operations nationwide.
"Duck boats are deadly on the water and on land," stated Mr. Mongeluzzi. "They are dangerous because they have limited visibility – significant blind spots – and are unwieldy because they're a boat and are not required to comply with federal vehicle crash worthiness standards."
On July 7, 2010 two young tourists on a Philadelphia duck boat cruise were killed in an incident that sparked international controversy over whether the amphibious duck boat is safe to operate. He and his team from Saltz, Mongeluzzi, Barrett & Bendesky, P.C., represented the families of the victims in the 2010 duck boat tragedy that resulted in a $17 million settlement in Federal Court in Philadelphia. The firm now represents the victim in the May 8, 2015 death by duck boat of tourist- pedestrian Elizabeth 'Liz' Karnicki, PhD.
