CHICAGO, June 15 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Stephen R. Permut, M.D., J.D., a family medicine physician in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania was elected today as a new member of the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association (AMA), the nation's largest and most influential physician organization.

Dr. Permut has been a member of the AMA's House of Delegates for 18 years. He has served on the AMA Board Task Force on Patient Safety, Quality and Information Technology and the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement and chaired the Council on Legislation. Dr. Permut is also a past president of the Medical Society of Delaware. Combining his medical and legal training, Dr. Permut has worked with the Delaware legislature for more than 20 years to protect Delaware's medical liability reform laws and to revise the state's Medical Practices Act.
Dr. Permut maintains a medical practice in Philadelphia and is a tenured professor and chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine and associate dean for Academic Affiliations at Temple University School of Medicine.
Dr. Permut is a graduate of Temple University School of Medicine and Widener University School of Law. He completed his medical residency at Indiana University Medical Center and is board certified in family medicine, internal medicine and legal medicine. His term on the Board lasts four years.
