PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 6, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia Opportunities Industrialization Center, Inc. announced today that Dr. Kevin R. Johnson, President & CEO, Philadelphia OIC, will take an administrative leave of absence to pursue a vacant seat in Pennsylvania's First Congressional District, effective Friday February 2, 2018.

Pursuing this seat will allow me to expand my reach and help more people in impoverished communities," said Dr. Johnson. "I've spent my entire life as a tireless advocate – for people I love, for causes I believe in, and for residents of underserved communities and I want to represent Philadelphians because I can be our champion and make sure our voices, needs, and concerns are heard throughout the halls of Congress."
The Philadelphia OIC Board of Directors has appointed Philadelphia OIC Board Treasurer, Charles Crumbley III, to serve as Interim President & CEO. Mr. Crumbley recently retired from PECO Energy after spending 32 years in various roles of management. Mr. Crumbley joined Philadelphia OIC's board in January 2010.
Dr. Johnson became President & CEO of Philadelphia OIC on January 5, 2015. Under his leadership, The Philadelphia OIC increased job placement to nearly 80% and grew in revenue from $1.3 million to $4.2 million by expanding its workforce-development offerings to include various industries such as: coding, banking, construction and energy. Additionally, in August 2017, Philadelphia OIC opened the doors to Philadelphia OIC Workforce Academy, an accelerated high school funded through the School District of Philadelphia's Opportunity Network, to serve over-aged and under-credited high school students aged 16-21 years old.
