PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 4, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Philadelphia OIC's Hospitality Training Institute (HTI) is celebrating the 30TH year anniversary since it was established and a 25-year relationship with the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA). Hospitality Training Institute (HTI) opened its doors in 1989 to train individuals in the Philadelphia region for onboarding careers in the hospitality and culinary fields. With the financial support of the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority, HTI annually trains 200-plus participants in need of opportunities to gain 21st century skills leading to pathways to employment.
In recognition of the 25th year mark, the Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority allocated two $5,000 scholarships for alumni of the program to further their education in the hospitality industry. Hospitality Training Institute has trained more than 5,000 people including Louise McDougal, Director of Quality Assurance and Inn Keeper, Akwaaba Bed & Breakfast, Philadelphia, Chef Kristol Bryant, Culinary Food Stylist at QVC and Chef Tracey Borden, Culinary Instructor at Philadelphia OIC.
Hospitality Training Institute is designed to prepare students with basic knowledge and practical experience in front desk operations & guest services, environmental services and culinary arts. In addition to equipping students with academic education classes, life skills and counseling – students are required to complete a two-week internship of unpaid experience in a traditional workplace environment to help them gain real world work experience.

Following is the criteria for the scholarship:
- An applicant must be a current OIC student, or an OIC Alumni from the Hospitality Training Institute Program. Applicants must be in good standing with Philadelphia OIC or have successfully completed the program and satisfied all the necessary requirements of program participation, including externship.
- Applicants must be enrolled and/or accepted as a student in an accredited university or specialty school with a declared major in hotel/restaurant management, hospitality management, food service, or other hospitality-related program that is subject to approval by the Philadelphia OIC Scholarship Committee.
