Philadelphia Freedom Will be West Hollywood Freedom
Tax on Billboards in Philadelphia Now Proposed for West Hollywood Will Create Financial Freedom for the People of West Hollywood.
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The Tax Billboard Act for The City of West Hollywood 2010 is modeled after Philadelphia Billboard Tax that has been successfully in place for over 5 years. Since 2005 the People and City of Philadelphia have financially benefited from the 7% Tax on Billboards in their City. Now, West Hollywood is going to have the same freedom to profit from the new Tax Billboard Act Initiative as Philadelphia.

Major Billboard Companies challenged the Philadelphia Billboard Tax Ordinance and lost their case in October of 2005, allowing the City of Philadelphia to fairly Tax Billboards in the City. The City Attorney for West Hollywood stated, "The proposed ordinance would increase this tax to 7% of gross revenues collected by sign owners from advertisers purchasing advertising space on billboards, tall walls and other off-site advertising signs. The proposed ordinance would authorize the City to establish procedures and regulations for collecting the tax. The revenue generated from the tax could be used by the City for any municipal purpose."
Conservative estimates of over $4,200,000.00 paid annually to the people and the City of West Hollywood for allowing the billboard companies this great financial privilege (conservative Billboard Company revenue in WEHO $60,000,000.00 annually).
In fairness, Billboard Companies should be required to give back a fair share of their massive revenues to the community where they profit.
"Shine a light, shine a light Philadelphia freedom I love you, yes I do" Elton John...so do the People and City of West Hollywood.
