BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Nov. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Loton, Corp. (OTC: LIVX) announced that music industry veteran Phil Quartararo has joined as Vice Chairman of its LiveXLive subsidiary. LiveXLive is the premium live music video platform reinvigorating the music business with its HD streams from the most important global festivals and clubs.
Quartararo, who was previously on the company's advisory board, is known for helping launch Virgin Records America and the careers of such artists as Lenny Kravitz, Coldplay, and Janet Jackson. In addition to having held the position of President at both Warner Bros. Records and EMI, he is known as a major defender of artists' rights and a leader in efforts to restore value to music.
"Phil is a seasoned veteran in the music and tech industry and has proven to be a leader at LXL," commented Robert Ellin, Chairman of Loton, Corp. "In his expanded role, Phil will focus on artist relations, relationships with managers, distribution agreements, and global strategic partnerships. We are glad to have Phil increase his commitment to our company and look forward to Phil continuing to expand his role over time."
"Building LiveXLive is a lot like when we launched Virgin. Everything in the music industry had become flat and mundane, and we came to shake it up," says Phil Quartararo, Vice Chairman of LiveXLive. "Despite all the streaming music apps fighting for consumers attention, the pipe between artists and fans is broken. I joined Rob Ellin and LiveXLive because I believe it's giving artists and fans back that feeling of being directly connected to each other."
After Quartararo helped Island Records break U2 in the U.S., he was recruited by Sir Richard Branson to help launch Virgin Records America and later became its CEO. Later, as President of Warner Bros. Records, the world's largest record company at the time, Quartararo personally signed artists such as Linkin Park and Josh Groban, and guided many more careers including those of Madonna, Cher, Wilco, Eric Clapton, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faith Hill, and Green Day.
Since 2007 Quartararo has focused on digital music distribution startups with his company Tripod Partners working with Beta Records TV, Shazam, and Guvera. He's managed major acts; executive produced a Grammy winning album and an 8-hour PBS mini-series, and served on the board of the Grammy Foundation.
LiveXLive has signed exclusive deals with major festivals such as Rock in Rio (where Bruce Springsteen and Maroon 5 headlined), and major clubs such as the Saban Theater in L.A. and Marquee in Las Vegas. Since launching in May 2016, LiveXLive has streamed performances by worldwide sensations including Katy Perry, Rihanna, Rod Stewart, Metallica, Sam Smith, Elton John, John Legend and many more. Artists and labels have recognized the platform's' unique ability to expand not just awareness and engagement, but sales of music, tickets and merchandise.
