PHC to Present $50,000 Check to the Scranton Neighborhood Park Collaborative

PHILADELPHIA, June 27, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Humanities Council will present a $50,000 Civic Engagement Grant Award check to the Scranton Neighborhood Park Collaborative on Wednesday, July 2, at 10 a.m. in Jackson Park, located at 1304 Jackson Street in West Scranton. Led by the Scranton Area Foundation, the Collaborative, composed of 6 local non-profits, is the first recipient of PHC's new grant initiative, which targets projects that promote civic engagement. The grant will go toward the reconstruction of a public park and activities that directly engage the community in the development process; resulting in an enduring, collaboratively designed public space that reflects the values and culture of residents of West Scranton and fosters strong connections among the residents of surrounding communities. With the aid of the Humanities Advisory Council, composed of humanities experts, artists, and museum and other informal learning professionals, the Collaborative will use humanities programs to engage Scranton residents in meaningful dialogue and ultimately to revitalize the community.
