Phase Two of Southern California Standby Generator Emissions Retrofitting Project Announced
WALTHAM, Mass., Oct. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Tecogen® Inc. (NASDAQ: TGEN) has successfully completed Phase 1 of the prior announced project to retrofit standby emergency natural gas generators for non-emergency operation in Southern California and is pleased to announce receipt of a Phase 2 order for the project. The follow-on order comes after a successful demonstration of the ultra-clean emissions technology up-fit to a conventional 130 kW generator at Tecogen's Waltham facility. Low emissions levels, comparable to a fuel cell, were maintained under various loads and simulated load swings. The Phase 1 project also featured the modular integration of the technology to conventional commercial equipment (detailed in prior press releases from October 2014 & February 2015). The multi-unit retrofit contract is valued at nearly half a million dollars, more than all prior combined sales of retrofit emissions kits to date.
As was previously discussed, permitting of a natural gas generator for operation as a non-emergency operator is the most strict permit category under South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) Rule 1110.2. This requires a single purpose engine-generator to achieve the base limits published in the rule without the heat recovery credit afforded Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems. The retrofitting of standby generators with more stringent emissions technology will allow owners to participate in Demand Response utility programs, thereby shaving peak electric usage and removing the most punitive kilowatt-hours from their monthly utility bill.
Speaking about the project, Tecogen President, COO and an inventor of the patented ultra-clean emissions technology Robert Panora noted, "The receipt of a phase two order further validates the effectiveness of our emissions technology. I am confident that this order is among the first of a number of successful applications of our emissions technology to various categories of reciprocating engine, including those being explored by the newly formed vehicle emissions Advisory Group announced earlier this month."
