Pharmacy College Applications Screened Using Turnitin for Admissions
The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and Turnitin for Admissions partner to provide authenticity and plagiarism review as part of the college application process
ALEXANDRIA, Va. and OAKLAND, Calif., May 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and iParadigms®, creator of Turnitin for Admissions®, Turnitin®, and iThenticate®, the global leader in plagiarism prevention, today announced that the Turnitin for Admissions service has been selected as a vendor by AACP. Applicants to pharmacy colleges that use AACP's Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS) will have their admissions essays verified for authenticity by Turnitin for Admissions.
The Turnitin for Admissions service is being integrated into the PharmCAS service by Liaison International, LLC, the service provider of the PharmCAS web-based application and admissions system. This integration will allow for submission of applicant essays to AACP's Turnitin for Admissions account to be verified for authenticity and to create Similarity Reports. Admissions offices at schools of pharmacy will be able to review the verified applicant essay within their PharmCAS web interface as applicants apply for admission to pharmacy schools and colleges in 2011.
Dr. Jennifer L. Athay, Director of Student Affairs at AACP found, "after surveying AACP's member pharmacy schools and hearing that the majority were supportive of incorporating plagiarism detection software into the Pharmacy College Application Service, we knew we had to move forward with the addition of plagiarism detection software. We are looking forward to increasing the honesty and integrity of the pharmacy school application process through the use of Turnitin for Admissions."
"The decision to verify essays, personal statements, and scholarship essays is an important part of the admissions process," said Jeff Lorton, Product and Business Development Manager at Turnitin for Admissions. "Holistic decision-making by admissions offices has increased the importance of the applicant's essay. We are excited to help pharmacy colleges make well-informed, fair decisions based on verified essays."
Turnitin for Admissions compares submitted documents to a massive database of existing content to generate a comprehensive Similarity Report. The report highlights and provides links to any significant matches found within the document. By pinpointing these instances of possible unoriginal material, Turnitin for Admissions helps admissions' staff decide if plagiarism, duplication, collusion or other problems exist within the document.
