PGW Evaluating Future of Creighton Plant
PITTSBURGH, Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Pittsburgh Glass Works, LLC (PGW) confirmed today that discussions are underway involving the future of company's manufacturing facility in Creighton, Pennsylvania. The facility is one of the company's eight automotive glass manufacturing plants in the United States, with 193 hourly workers.
A combination of difficult realities could lead to the Creighton facility's closure in 2018, with an initial shift of certain customer orders to PGW's unionized facility in Evansville, Indiana for fulfillment. Under this scenario, the full conclusion of production activities at Creighton might not occur until the summer of 2018 – about nine months from now.
"Despite our extraordinary group of employees and colleagues at Creighton – including some unique work that has never been done before in glass-pressing technology – the facility faces a combination of serious challenges," company CEO and President Joe Stas said.
Headquartered in Pittsburgh, the company reiterated its commitments to Pennsylvania. It currently operates three Pennsylvania manufacturing plants in Creighton, Tipton and Meadville and its research facility in Pittsburgh, all of which employ 650 people. The company's employees in Pennsylvania play a pivotal role in making PGW a leader in the design and production of automotive glass, supplying automakers and aftermarket customers worldwide.
