PGP Corporation Announces New Data Protection Solutions for Mac and Linux Enterprise Users
First encryption vendor to provide support across Ubuntu Linux, Red Hat Linux, Mac and Windows environments
MENLO PARK, Calif., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data protection, today announced availability of the latest version of PGP® Desktop. This new release extends PGP's leadership position in enterprise data protection and enables client convenience and compliance across all of the major desktop operating systems environments -- Windows, Mac OS X, Ubuntu Linux and Red Hat Linux. In addition to allowing disk encryption across mixed environments, PGP® Desktop for Mac now also supports Boot Camp, so users can have complete protection for machines running dual Mac OS X and Windows environments.
"From our customer base, we've seen the use of Mac and Linux-based operating systems in the enterprise markedly increase in recent years," said Phillip Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP Corporation. "The challenge for many IT departments today has been straddling the desire for the ease-of-use and choice of applications that these platforms provide, with the lack of data protection solutions available. PGP Corporation is proud to offer solutions that span operating systems that will encrypt and lock down sensitive data no matter where it resides and no matter where it goes."
Today, IT organizations continue to struggle with mounting obstacles including the proliferation of both authorized and unauthorized mobile devices in the workforce and the increase of embarrassing and costly data breaches. Moreover, enterprises are also coping with declining IT budgets, staffing constraints and increasing regulatory fines and penalties; while attempting to provide enhanced security and management compliance across a more "consumerized" workplace with a mixed environment of enterprise computing platforms.
"Ubuntu has seen growth in the desktop, server and now the private cloud Ecosystem," said Steve George, VP Corporate Services, Canonical, Ltd. "We're delighted therefore to see PGP Corporation's excellence in security and protection in mixed environments become available to Ubuntu users everywhere."
To meet these demanding challenges, this latest release of PGP® Desktop from the company addresses these concerns by providing the following new features:
Endpoint Data Protection
- PGP® Whole Disk Encryption on Linux -- support for Red Hat and Ubuntu
- PGP® Whole Disk Encryption on Mac OS X Snow Leopard
