PG&E Provides Additional $25,000 To The American Red Cross Following Napa Quake
Utility Provides Essential Funding to Napa County Chapter of the Red Cross
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 29, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Red Cross and Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) today announced an increased partnership of $25,000 following the 6.0 magnitude earthquake near Napa, Calif., on August 24.
"American Red Cross and PG&E both recognize that natural and human-caused disaster can strike suddenly, at anytime and anywhere," said American Red Cross Regional Chief Executive Tim Miller. "PG&E's continual and increased investment in our mission allows Red Cross to prepare for and respond to emergencies, ultimately helping communities be more resilient following a disaster."
The increased support from the utility is essential in helping the American Red Cross in its efforts to aid people affected by disasters like the recent earthquake in California. The funding will provide temporary shelter, meals and snacks, water, health and mental health services, personal care comfort kits (shampoo, deodorant, etc.), clean-up supplies (i.e., shovel, tarp, etc.), as well as preparedness education so residents know what to do when future earthquakes occur.
"We know the work to rebuild after the Napa earthquake is far from finished. We're part of this community, and we're here to help," said Chris Johns, president of PG&E.
How to Help the Red Cross
The Red Cross currently has enough supplies to assist those affected by the quake. In-kind donations of water, clothes, and other material goods are NOT needed and will not be accepted at Red Cross shelters.
