"We are proud to celebrate the Grand Opening of our new Box Elder Family Care plant in Utah today in order to enable us to better serve more consumers, more completely, across the U.S. and Canada," said Bob McDonald, P&G chairman of the Board, president and chief executive officer. "This is just one more way we are continuing to better serve consumers through outstanding innovation and value in both developing and developed markets."
Family Care's Charmin toilet paper is now rolling off the line, and through the new Distribution Center Bounty paper towels, Puffs facial tissues and a number of other P&G products are being shipped to consumers and customers in the west, one of the fastest growing regions in the U.S. P&G's Box Elder on-site Distribution Center officially began operations in April 2010.
"I am truly pleased to officially welcome P&G, and celebrate the brand new 'Utah made' Charmin now being shipped," said Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert. "P&G's commitment to strong values, excellent products and leadership is a wonderful fit with our community and business culture in Utah."
Located on 750 acres and 75 minutes from Salt Lake City, P&G Family Care's new Box Elder plant has more than 600,000 square foot of manufacturing space, plus 400,000 square feet for its on-site Distribution Center which opened last spring to ship a number of P&G products. P&G Family Care currently has five other manufacturing sites in the U.S., but until now, none in the Northwestern area of the U.S.
"It is hard to believe that less than 4 years ago we announced our plans to build the Box Elder site," said Mary Lynn Ferguson-McHugh, group president, P&G Family Care. "We appreciate the warm welcome we've received from the people of Utah, and the tremendous work of our employees here and our other Family Care sites. The result is an impressive, bright and efficient work space that will enable our employees to continue to meet the needs of our Family Care consumers and customers."
