Pew Environment Group on the Death of Former Senator Ted Stevens
WASHINGTON, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Joshua S. Reichert, managing director of the Pew Environment Group, issued the following statement today on the death of former Senator Ted Stevens.
"We are saddened by the passing of Senator Ted Stevens, a longtime champion of fishery conservation. The 2006 amendments to the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act were largely due to his efforts. Those amendments set firm catch limits and deadlines to end overfishing in U.S. waters while strengthening the role of science in managing our fisheries. Senator Stevens successfully resisted attempts to weaken the nation's primary law governing ocean fisheries.
"We send our heartfelt condolences to the families of Senator Stevens and the other victims of Monday's accident."
