PetSmart Charities® Phoenix Community Adoption Event Hopes to Find Homes for Hundreds of Pets
Vaccination and mobile spay and neuter clinics available on-site
PHOENIX, Aug. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- PetSmart Charities will host a community adoption event with the goal of adopting 600 pets in Phoenix, Ariz., on Saturday, August 11 (10 a.m. – 5 p.m.) and Sunday, August 12 (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.). The Phoenix community adoption event, sponsored by KTVK 3TV and Purina® Pro Plan®, will be held at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum (1826 W. McDowell Rd.) in partnership with several Phoenix-area animal welfare agencies.
In addition to adoptions, pet parents can take advantage of the event's vaccination clinic and free mobile spay and neuter clinic. The vaccination clinic will offer microchips for $20, and vaccinations for both dogs and cats will be available for $14 each. The mobile spay and neuter clinic will perform surgeries free of cost for Maricopa County residents. For more information about the specific vaccinations, spay and neuter clinic requirements and fees, visit www.petsmartcharities.org.
"PetSmart Charities continues to provide us with a great opportunity to showcase hundreds of adoptable pets in need of a lifelong, loving home," said Heather Allen, president and CEO, HALO Animal Rescue. "We hope pet parents will also take advantage of the on-site spay/neuter clinic, microchipping and vaccinations, which will keep pets healthy while providing a convenient solution to solve the pet homelessness problem on the spot."
An estimated 8 million dogs and cats enter animal shelters in the U.S. each year, and approximately 4 million – approximately 11,000 each day – are euthanized. PetSmart Charities strives to bring attention to the availability of pets at shelters and rescue groups and to the benefits of pet adoption. As an added benefit, the participating Phoenix-area animal welfare agencies will receive increased adoption rewards from PetSmart Charities for every pet adopted during the event.
"Every homeless pet deserves the opportunity to find a forever, loving home," said Kevin Hill, shopper marketing manager, Nestle Purina PetCare Company. "Our goal in supporting the PetSmart Charities' community adoption events is to help improve the lives of homeless pets by providing them with super premium nutrition as well as other important pet care supplies. We hope by providing these essentials, these pets and new pet owners can now focus on other important matters like growing a bond for life."
