"In our hometown of Knoxville, Tenn., we've worked with the community to build several dog parks, and we've seen firsthand the positive impact they've had," said Randy Boyd, president and CEO of PetSafe. "Dog parks not only offer pet parents spots for outdoor pet recreation and expand green park space, they also strengthen the sense of community among local pet owners. We're thrilled to launch 'Bark for Your Park' to help another city build a community dog park."
The "Bark for Your Park" contest will be driven largely by community support. Active citizens and pet owners are encouraged to participate by going to www.barkforyourpark.com to log their support for their city now through June 1. In addition to community enthusiasm, PetSafe will review the availability of land and resources as well as the overall community impact of a dog park.
PetSafe will select 15 finalists, and then it will be up to the public to "bark for your park" and vote for their favorite. The finalist community with the most votes will receive $100,000 toward building a PetSafe dog park. PetSafe will announce the winner in August.
To become a finalist, PetSafe encourages community members to partner with local officials, animal shelters and welfare groups, animal professionals and pet owners to best demonstrate the city's dedication to its pet community.
"We anticipate that this contest will inspire many animal lovers and community leaders to work together to achieve this goal for their city," Boyd said. "We want to hear everyone 'bark' for their park!"
