Petland Plano Takes in Dogs from Damaged Shelter
Store to care for and help adopt more than 20 dogs until shelter is repaired
PLANO, Texas, July 7, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The Petland store in Plano is lending a helping hand to A Different Breed Rescue after severe storm damage to the facility left the rescue unable to house most of the dogs.

Dinesha Schmidt runs the 501c3 no-kill shelter out of her home. Storms from Tropical Depression Bill felled a 60-foot oak tree June 24, crushing the corner of their home and destroying the main dog room, the dog maternity/isolation room and the storage/laundry area.
Fortunately, no one was injured, but Schmidt was faced with trying to find a place to house the more than 50 dogs she was caring for.
When Lisa Abair, the owner of Petland on Custer Road in Plano, heard the news, she and her staff were eager to lend their assistance. Abair has been working with Schmidt since January bringing the rescue's puppies into the store for adoption. They have adopted almost 140 puppies through the store.
"We had the space to take in about 20 of the dogs and it was the least we could do to help," said Abair, "We've already adopted two of them to new families."
Abair adopts rescue puppies at her location and devotes some of her store space to boarding services.
Another storm on June 29 caused another tree to fall on the property, but not on the house. Both of those trees provided a great deal of shade for the outdoor play area and Schmidt says it just adds to the work that needs to be completed before she can house the dogs again. One third of the house needs to be rebuilt, a shade overhang installed and the roof replaced.
A Different Breed Animal Rescue has established a GoFundMe campaign to help raise funds to cover the cost of the construction. http://www.gofundme.com/xe2td5k
Donations, both monetary as well as food, treats and toys, are also being accepted at the Petland store.
