Peter Westbrook Foundation (PWF) to Celebrate 20 Years of Enriching Lives
NEW YORK, June 12, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Peter Westbrook Foundation, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to utilizing the sport of fencing as a vehicle to improve the future of young people from underserved communities, will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in grand fashion on Thursday, June 14.
The celebration is set to start at 5 o'clock with the Peter Westbrook Foundation's 20th Anniversary VIP Reception Gala. Held at New York University's breathtaking Vanderbilt Hall, the reception will host an ensemble of prominent athletes and Olympians throughout the PWF's 20-year history. Guests will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and cocktails as they are entertained with live fencing demonstrations and talks from PWF members past and present as they reflect on 20 years of giving back. Amidst the festivities, the event will also honor Bank of America Senior Vice President Maurice Coleman, Lord Abbett Managing Partner and President Daria Foster, and Honorary Chair Kneeland Youngblood, for their outstanding philanthropic efforts and their ongoing activity within the urban community.
Built on 20 years of engaging New York City youth, the Peter Westbrook Foundation has had unparalleled victory in its mission to teach good sportsmanship and developing critical life skills. The success of the organization began with the courageousness of its founder and Olympic Bronze medal winner, Peter Westbrook, who recognized fencing's potential as a vehicle for enriching the lives of inner-city children. The achievement of the program has resulted in production of athletes who represent the United States around the world. Amongst its achievements, the organization takes pride in producing six Olympians, including two silver medalists at the Beijing Olympic games in 2008, alongside 2012 World Champion, Ben Bratton. After 20 years of engaging the community, the PWF still approaches its vocation with vigor.
"As with any other milestone, it is important to look back on all that we've overcome and accomplished," said founder Peter Westbrook. "We have had so many successes over our 20-year history, but our proudest accomplishment has been our ability to transform lives and develop leadership skills in our youth."
