DELRAY BEACH, Fla., Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Pet Airways, Inc. (Pink Sheets: PAWS), the world's first airline designed specifically for the comfortable, efficient and safe transportation of pets, today announced that it would be providing transport from Arizona to New York for Destiny, a shelter dog being adopted by the Guardians of Rescue organization. The life of Destiny is tragically linked to the lives of two heroic dogs adopted by Army Guardsman Sgt. Christopher Duke and Sgt. Terry Young who served together in Afghanistan.

In July 2010, the Guardians of Rescue, along with the Puppy Rescue Mission reunited Sgts. Duke and Young with their two dogs, Target and Rufus, who saved their lives and the lives of 50 other soldiers from a suicide bomber in Afghanistan. These heroic "dogs of war" came home to the United States, and were flown to Atlanta by Pet Airways, where they were reunited with their soldiers and their families.
Target went to live with Sgt. Young and his family in Phoenix, AZ. Two weeks ago, in mid-November, Target ran out of the yard, was picked up by animal control and transferred to a local shelter. Before Sgt. Young could get to the shelter to retrieve Target, she was mistakenly put to sleep, after a tragic mix-up at the shelter identified the wrong dog to be euthanized.
"It seems perfectly fitting that today, on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor, we acknowledge and bring awareness to the comfort that dogs on the battlefield provide our soldiers," said Dan Wiesel, President of Pet Airways. "The Guardian of Rescue Organization has played an important part in this effort, and Pet Airways is proud to assist." The spared dog was named "Destiny" and will become part of the Guardians of Rescue team, and the mascot for their campaign for "Target's Law," designed to help protect the rights of shelter pets.
Destiny will depart from the Pet Airways Lounge in Mesa, AZ, arriving at the Pet Airways Lounge at Republic Airport, NY on Wednesday morning.
