Personnel Recovery Forces Seek Joint Solutions to Shared Challenges

With the largest Search and Rescue (SAR) Exercise in the world under way in the United States, international personnel recovery forces are paying careful attention to the developments and lessons garnered from 'Angel Thunder' ahead of joint discussions taking place in London this May.

Defence IQ's 7^th annual Joint Personnel Recovery conference will be returning with a global speaker panel to network with the defence industry in the hopes of finding mutual answers in the post-Afghanistan environment to the challenge of personnel recovery.

In particular, issues of collaborative progress and exercises will be a focal point given the need to divest requirements to allies and partners during this time of fiscal constraint and ultimately work in a coalition environment wherever possible.

Fresh examination will this year be provided by senior SERE officers from the Irish Defence Forces, the Air forces of Turkey, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Spain and Belgium, the Armies of Germany and Finland.

On the issue of aircraft requirements in the near future, Colonel Billy Thompson, the USAF 23d Wing commander and one of the key conductors of 'Angel Thunder', told Defence IQ ahead of the event that his forces will look to do "anything we can do to streamline the logistics chain, starting with requiring less of it [by making] the asset more reliable."
