New hire joins recently recruited key Santorum staff for ongoing grassroots expansion
WASHINGTON, May 21, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Generation Opportunity today announced the ongoing expansion of its roster of grassroots and coalitions experts with the addition of a former member of House Speaker Newt Gingrich's 2012 presidential campaign team. Generation Opportunity hired Carlos Muhletaler, former Florida Southeast Regional Director for the Newt 2012 campaign, to serve as a Regional Field Director. Muhletaler is a Florida native and a graduate of Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He also holds a Masters Degree from Vanderbilt University in Latin American Studies. Muhletaler has worked with a number of non-profits, leading educational and grassroots organizing efforts throughout Florida, and has worked closely within a number of communities in the state including the Hispanic community.
"Generation Opportunity continues to rapidly expand our grassroots efforts in order to maximize our capacity to organize and mobilize the millions of young Americans who are increasingly disaffected by the lack of jobs and economic opportunity. Young people are very savvy and know they are being forced to delay their dreams as a direct result of the failed policies coming out of Washington. They will not settle for the status quo, and our expanding team of committed and highly talented professionals is working day and night to help them change the course of the nation for the better," said Amber Roseboom, Executive Vice President of Generation Opportunity and a former official at the Department of Labor and the Department of Homeland Security.
In the past several weeks, Generation Opportunity has grown its national grassroots team with a number of hirings including:
- Nick Pappas, former Santorum Deputy National Political Director, now serves as a Regional Field Director.
- David Pasch, former Santorum Staff Lead and Trip Manager, now serves a Deputy Communications Director.
- Jake Uhlenkott, former Santorum National Field Director, now serves as a Regional Field Director.
Generation Opportunity recently conducted a tour of college campuses in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami areas, which included stops at Broward College, the University of Miami, Florida International University, and Nova Southeastern University. In addition, the grassroots team engaged young people at a variety of public events including a Miami Heat game held at American Airlines Arena, the ING Miami Marathon, the Homestead Championship Rodeo, and a parade in Homestead, Florida.
In 2011, the group joined nearly 1,500 Hispanic business leaders in Miami, Florida, as a participant in the 32nd Annual U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) National Convention and Business Expo. The group has also participated in the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) Convention, a number of major events hosted by the Hispanic Leadership Network, twice participated in the annual Que Pasa? Festival in Richmond, Virginia, and conducted other outreach efforts.
Generation Opportunity has also made its popular online training guide series available in Spanish. The complete series of guides is available at http://generationopportunity.org/take-action/ and in Spanish at http://generationopportunity.org/espanol/.
The guides are designed to assist young Americans in telling their stories of how the poor economy has impacted them to the media and to elected officials.
