Personhood USA: Planned Parenthood blames personhood activists for defeat of radical pro-abortion bill
DENVER, April 17, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado released an email Wednesday blaming personhood supporters for the defeat of a radical Colorado bill that attempted to establish a "fundamental right" to abortion in the state.
S.B. 175 was tabled on the Senate floor after Democratic lawmakers began to waver under the intense pressure of local personhood activists. More than 5,000 signatures against the bill were gathered in just a few hours and delivered to legislators hearing the bill.
"Planned Parenthood and Colorado Democrats have failed to pass the most extreme pro-abortion law in the country because of the backlash from Coloradans who believe in the sanctity of life," said Jennifer Mason, Personhood USA spokesperson. "Their radical attempt to discover a 'right to abortion' even more expansive than Roe v. Wade is completely out of touch with the people of Colorado."
Already, Colorado is home to late-term, third-trimester abortionist Dr. Warren Hern, who provides abortion until the day of birth.
Mason continued, "Personhood USA was one of several groups calling for the bill's defeat. It is absurd for Planned Parenthood and Colorado Democrats to expand upon what is already among the world's most liberal abortion laws."
