Personhood USA: Massachusetts and Connecticut lawmakers press DCF to free Justina Pelletier to her family
BOSTON, March 7, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lawmakers in both states demand that DCF agencies return Justina Pelletier's custody back to her family.
On Thursday, the Pelletiers urged lawmakers to support the resolution introduced by Representatives Marc Lombardo and James Lyons. The resolution, which is backed by 22 representatives, urges the Massachusetts DCF to free Justina to her family and calls for an investigation into the department's beleaguered bureaucracy.
At standing-room only crowd gathered at the Massachusetts State House to hear Justina Pelletier's story from her family. This is one of the first public meetings that the family has held since the gag order was lifted.
Further progress is being made in the Connecticut legislature. At the Connecticut state capitol on Wednesday, Senator Joe Markley circulated a letter addressed to the Connecticut DCF, urging them to return Justina's custody to her family. By the end of the day, more than 15 legislators had signed the letter.
Rev. Patrick Mahoney, spokesperson for the Pelletier family and Director of the Washington D.C. based Christian Defense Coalition said: "Our number one goal is to see Justina Pelletier returned to the loving arms of her family. It would be unthinkable for Justina to simply be shuffled between faceless government agencies."
Keith Mason, President of Personhood USA, added: "Justina isn't a piece a property to be bounced between DCF agencies who don't understand her condition and story. She's a person. She belongs with a family who loves her, knows her, and wants the best medical treatment for her. If we respect human dignity, we must demand that Justina is released to her family."
