Perfect World's "Return of the Condor Heroes" Tops iOS Chart
BEIJING, Nov. 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Perfect World's mobile game "Return of the Condor Heroes" topped the iPad App chart on Oct. 30, 2013 while holding fifth place on the iPhone App chart. As a relatively hard-core game, its immense popularity has made a splash in the gaming sector.
After debuting on August 22, "Return of the Condor Heroes" quickly won the hearts of its players. The game reportedly raked in a whopping 2 million yuan in terms of user recharge on the day of its launch.
Its rank has steady moved up the iOS chart. On Oct. 30, the game jumped to the top spot on the iPad App chart and ranked fifth on the iPhone App chart.
GPC, the China Game Publishers Association Publications Committee, said that casual mobile games have greater advantages in ranking due to its simplicity and low learning curve. In China, casual games and card games have long occupied the top spots of mobile game charts. Hard-core games like "Return of the Condor Heroes," on the other hand, excel in its lasting Appeal and greater player loyalty. That explained why the resounding success of the Perfect World game has taken the market by surprise.
It has been an issue of debate whether MMO developers can be successful when moving into the mobile space. This year, Perfect World led China's 3D online games by launching "Swordsman Online," while its MMORPG "Saint Seiya Online," adapted from the globally famous comic "Saint Seiya," also was a hit. The success of "Return of the Condor Heroes" has proved its competence in the mobile gaming sector.
The company's success has won recognition from its peers attending a mobile forum on Oct. 26. Some even hailed the company as the leading player of China's gaming industry.
Actually, Perfect World has only begun to flex its mobile gaming muscle this year. Bigger moves are expected as Perfect World continues to develop mobile gaming, as the company still holds the right to adapt a number of classic and popular novels into games.
