PepsiCo and Feeding America Unite for Second Annual National Day of Service
PURCHASE, N.Y., Sept. 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, PepsiCo employees across the United States will take part in PepsiCo Feeds America, a national day of service led by Mosaic, PepsiCo's African-American employee resource group. More than 1,300 employees at over 35 Feeding America network food banks will join together in action and spirit to raise awareness of the critical issue of hunger.
Volunteers will prepare care packages to help Feeding America provide food for thousands of individuals and families in need. In conjunction with PepsiCo Feeds America, over 250,000 pounds of food and beverage donations have been allocated to Feeding America network food banks, including PepsiCo products like Quaker Oatmeal, Frito-Lay snacks and Aquafina water. In just one day, PepsiCo employees will log 6,000 hours of combined community service.
"Feeding America, and our network of food banks, is thankful to PepsiCo not only as a generous donor, but especially for showing tremendous leadership in volunteerism," said Vicki Escarra, President and CEO of Feeding America. "Over the years, PepsiCo employees have given their time and talent to help the nearly 49 million Americans facing hunger. By sharing their time, talent and strength with those most in need, PepsiCo employees demonstrate how each individual can make a difference in their community. For this, we are truly grateful."
"PepsiCo is proud to support the efforts of Feeding America. They do incredibly important work in communities all across the country and play a vital role in the lives of millions of Americans," said Greg Willis, vice president and general manager of PepsiCo Sales and chairman of community projects for Mosaic. "PepsiCo employees display incredible passion for serving their local communities and this national day of service is a great opportunity to apply their passion in ways that will help our neighbors in need."
PepsiCo is a longtime supporter of Feeding America. In the last six years, the company has donated nearly 400 million pounds of PepsiCo food and beverage products to Feeding America's network of food banks to help feed those struggling with hunger across the country.
