PepsiCo and Feed the Children to Provide 32,000 Pounds of Food and Essentials Today to Help Chicago Families Start the School Year
Food to supplement meals for a week and other supplies help 800 Chicago families
CHICAGO, Aug. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- PepsiCo and Feed the Children are uniting today to provide eight hundred families in need with enough food and essentials to supplement meals for a week. This will allow recipients to focus on back-to-school preparations rather than worrying about where they'll get their next meal. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. at St. Sabina Church, 1210 W. 78th Place, Chicago, IL.
This is the sixth year PepsiCo and Feed the Children have partnered to help feed families in the Chicago area, where more than 25 percent of the population lives below the poverty line. This distribution event is part of a larger initiative between the two organizations to help feed communities in cities throughout the United States. The receiving families have been identified and preselected by St. Sabina Church.
"We're excited to partner with Feed the Children, Jewel Osco and St. Sabina Church helping our friends and neighbors in the Chicago community," said Ashley Kelly, sr. zone sales supervisor, Heartland sales, Chicago zone, PepsiCo's Frito-Lay division. "Frito-Lay and PepsiCo are committed to giving back to our communities where we live and work, and providing enough food to supplement meals for a week is a small way we can help make a difference."
Each pre-identified recipient at today's event will be given:
- One 25-pound box of nonperishable food items
- One 15-pound box of personal-care items
- One box of assorted AVON products
- One 20-count bag of Frito-Lay snacks
- PepsiCo beverages
- Life Original Cereal
- Quaker Standard Oats
- Chewy Granola Bars
- Tropicana Orange Juice
- Fresh produce and shelf-stable foods from Jewel Osco
Volunteers from PepsiCo, Jewel Osco and Feed the Children will be onsite serving families and assisting with distribution during today's event.
"Feed the Children is proud to partner with PepsiCo," said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children President and CEO. "We know that when we combine our efforts we will have a greater impact on the lives of families who need us most—right here in America."
