AMSTERDAM, Sept. 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Penton's HostingCon announces that the Head of the Dutch police, Erik Akerboom, will address the HostingCon audience in Amsterdam on October 12, 2016.
Akerboom was appointed Head of the National Dutch Police in March 2016. His previous posts include the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) and the National Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). Based on his many years of experience and personal interest in the impact of the digitization of society, he has repeatedly stated that the fight against cybercrime should be a high priority for the government.
During his keynote at HostingCon Europe, Akerboom will share his views with an international audience. He will also discuss the Netherlands as a main data port in Europe, a node of data flows and services in cyberspace. Akerboom argues that if the Netherlands wants to be a safe place and continue to attract business from the cloud and hosting industry, the government needs to create a hospitable business climate.
At the same time, the government must also deal with cybercrime. The current proposed Cybercrime III law will give the Police the right to hack devices inside and outside the Netherlands. Akerboom will explain why this can be necessary and how the hosting community should take a more active role in preventing crime.
"The participation of Mr. Akerboom at HostingCon Europe highlights the important role local law enforcement can play in our industry. We are thrilled to have the head of the National Police speak at the event," said Cheryl Kemp, director and conference chair of HostingCon. "Focusing on cybersecurity reduction and prevention, in partnership with law enforcement, is key to our industry since cybercrime is costing businesses millions of dollars. Mr. Akerboom will shed some light on the efforts and challenges of the government in creating a safer internet."
