IoT Institute Expands Its Online Presence, Announces the IoT Institute Learning Center
CHICAGO, Nov. 3, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Penton's IoT Emerge, a new event produced by IoT Institute that targets the opportunities and challenges posed by IoT devices, platforms and services, provided attendees with a window into the future of the Internet of Things (IoT) on its opening day today. The event focuses on Industrial IoT, IoT Engineering, Smart Buildings & Energy, IoT Security and Women in IoT. It takes place at McCormick Center in Chicago through Friday, November 4.
"The Internet of Things is a top priority for technology and business professionals involved in business and smart cities. Our event offered an informative and action-packed first day. Attendees heard from industry luminaries that shared IoT best practices and use-cases and also had the opportunity to see many real-world solutions," said Will Wise, Managing Director, IoT Emerge & IoT Institute. "Today we'll offer additional case studies and best practices, and on Friday attendees will get the opportunity to see effective IoT applications first hand via our site visit tours with local companies. IoT Emerge provides attendees with a tangible roadmap for IoT success."
Futurist, inventor and noted hacker, Pablos Holman presented "Hacking the Future" on the Keynote stage. Holman has a unique view on hacking. He believes learning can come from breaking technology as well as building it. He also thinks using a hacker's mindset could be the key to coming up with solutions to some of the world's most pressing problems. Holman helped create the world's smallest PC; 3D printers at Makerbot; spaceships with Jeff Bezos; artificial intelligence agent systems; and the Hackerbot, a Wi-Fi seeking robot. Today, he is working on futuristic invention projects at the Intellectual Ventures Laboratory.
Cary Eskow, Vice President of LightSpeed at Avnet, with a focus on LED and Smart Lighting Programs, presented the Keynote entitled "Harnessing the Growing Market for IoT." Eskow discussed Smart Horticulture market forecasts and offered a case study of the IoT Smart Greenhouse and how these best practices can also be applied to other industries."
The two-day Women in IoT program commenced providing a forum for discussions on the most relevant industry topics and a setting for women to meet, exchange ideas and network. The "Your IT Digital Transformation - The Road to Modernization" session moderated by Tamara McCleary, founder, CEO & Brand Ambassador of Thulium.co and the "Connected, Smart and Resilient City Blueprints: How and Where to Start and Grow Public and Private Sector IoT Initiatives" session was moderated by Stephanie Hayden, CEO, Vision Architecture Inc. Both sessions hosted many industry luminaries including: Sandy Carter, Founder, CEO and Brand Ambassador for Silicon Blitz; Michelle Curtis, Senior Manager, IoT Strategy, AIS Division, Tech Data Corp; and Tina Gravel, Senior Vice President, Global Channels and Strategic Alliances, Cryptzone.
The IoT Emerge show experience offered attendees the opportunity to build a Tiny Arcade that fits in the palm of their hand. Attendees saw the xCraft's XPlusOne drone hover like a quadcopter and fly like a fixed-wing aircraft. Rawfa, in collaboration with Ava Grey Designs, created a mural incorporating the city's skyscape with characteristics of new and emerging technologies to capture Chicago's plans to become a Smart City. Attendees have begun to color in the mural and can get a copy of the print on a t-shirt. The 3D Printer Experience is showcasing a Sense 3D scanner to create 3D print ready, full color files. Attendees have been getting scanned to get a 3D version of themselves.
