NEW YORK, Nov. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Federal spending cuts required by sequestration have significantly impacted the nation's aerospace and defense programs. To assist industry professionals in determining how programs are being affected and where government is likely to place its bets, Penton's Aviation Week will hold its annual Aerospace & Defense Programs Conference on November 13-14, 2013 at the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix, AZ.

Themed "Strategic Priorities in a Sequestration Era," Aviation Week's Aerospace & Defense Programs Conference will gather defense and space industry engineering, strategy, supply chain, and program leaders for a series of high-level discussions designed to evaluate program performance, determine where money is being spent, and define best practices in tackling efficiency and cost. Presentations and panel discussions will address issues in four main categories: Strategy & Forecast, Supply Chain, Program Performance, and Innovation/Engineering.
The event features the 2013 Aviation Week Program Excellence Awards and the A&D Companies to Watch program. The Program Excellence Awards identify best practices in value creation, organizational excellence, managing and adapting to complexity, and metrics. Awards will be presented to finalists and winners at an awards gala on November 14. The gala also includes "Tomorrow's Engineering Leaders: The Twenty20s," Aviation Week's recognition of top engineering, math, science and technology students, produced in partnership with Raytheon.
The A&D Companies to Watch program, developed to serve the strategic sourcing needs of aerospace and defense supply chain and engineering/technology executives, provides a listing of 20 select companies with annual revenues of less than $100 million.
Five of the 20 companies were identified as best-in-class, based on the need for their products or services, their fitness as a supplier, and demonstrated ability to develop and bring to market products and services needed by the industry. The companies include:
- CPI Aerostructures
- Frontier Electronics Systems
- Plasma Ruggedized
- Swift Engineering Inc.
