Penton Names Joe Territo Senior Vice President, Content and User Engagement
New position sharpens focus on user experience and "daily relevance"; completes executive talent initiative to drive new digital product launches
NEW YORK, Feb. 4, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Digital content innovator Joe Territo has been named SVP, Content and User Engagement for Penton, a new executive position created to accelerate innovation around the digital user experience for all Penton brands, CEO David Kieselstein announced today.

Territo most recently served as Executive Director, Content, for Advance Digital, which operates leading local news and information websites in major U.S. markets served by Newhouse newspapers. In this position he focused exclusively on mobile initiatives, leading the launch and operation of 258 mobile websites and apps that boosted traffic from zero to 10 million unique monthly visitors in three years. Territo's success in this role capped an accomplished 15-year career at Advance Digital, which saw him rise through senior content product and business development ranks.
Territo will report to Kieselstein in the company's New York City headquarters, and serve as a member of Penton's Executive Committee. His hiring completes an executive talent initiative focused on digital capabilities that included the appointments of SVPs Sanjay Mutha (Marketing Services) last September, and Kate Spellman (Corporate Marketing) last month.
At Penton, Territo will focus on three primary areas of responsibility:
- driving overall digital content innovation, identifying new technologies and user needs, and accelerating best practice adoption across all Penton properties;
- leading the company's strategic initiative to build mobile digital communities that drive more daily relevance;
- accelerating Penton's "digital-first" content initiative toward a more dynamic mix of proprietary, expert-contributed, curated and user-generated sources.
"The focus of this newly created role is to accelerate innovation in the areas of user engagement, mobility and professional community. Our goal is daily relevance with each targeted user base we serve," said Kieselstein. "Joe's background in digital newspapers strikes all the right chords — daily, community, heavy mobile and a 'daypart' view to winning time with users. We see our competition as anything that can take away from time spent with a Penton brand. Joe's experience will help us all think more expansively about how to capture maximum user engagement. We're thrilled to welcome him to our team!"
