PENTAX Medical Announces License Agreement With American Speech-Language-Hearing Association To Digitize Clinical Assessment Tool For Voice Disorders
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 9, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- PENTAX Medical Company, a healthcare industry leader in speech, voice and swallowing assessment, announced a new licensing agreement with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) to incorporate a tool used to help clinicians assess voice problems into a new software module featured in the company's voice and speech assessment products. The agreement was announced here during the ASHA Annual Convention.
The Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V)* tool was developed by ASHA to provide a standardized protocol and assessment form for speech-language pathologists to describe and document clinical auditory-perceptual assessments of voice quality.
PENTAX Medical has integrated CAPE-V into a new software module called iCAPE-V, which will be loaded into Visi-Pitch and Computerized Speech Lab (CSL), the company's acoustic products that offer high-quality recordings of patient speech and voice.
The software, which was developed in partnership with ASHA, enables data entry to go from paper to electronic. It gives clinicians the ability to electronically measure CAPE-V scores through a sliding visual analog scale, eliminating the need for hand measurements. It can also automatically fill in patient information fields, allow clinicians to electronically add data, and store and manage patient files in a secure digital database.
"PENTAX Medical is dedicated to working with ASHA and the speech-language pathologist, voice scientist, and logopedist communities to develop products that further the field and help the patient population," said Jim Cavanaugh, Vice President, Global Product Management, PENTAX Medical. "We are extremely excited to have partnered with ASHA to develop a meaningful advancement to the industry."
