Pentagon Memorial Participating in National Memorial Day Parade
WASHINGTON, May 27, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Monday the Pentagon Memorial Fund will participate in the 2011 National Memorial Day Parade being held in Washington, D.C. The parade is the Seventh Annual National Memorial Day Parade presented by Boeing. This event is an opportunity for thousands of patriotic Americans to come together to honor those who have sacrificed so much in service to our country. The 2011 National Memorial Day Parade celebrates all who have served in uniform from the American Revolution to those serving abroad now.
"The Pentagon Memorial Fund is honored to be participating in this great and patriotic event," said James J. Laychak, President of the Pentagon Memorial Fund. "Knowing that so many of our brave men and women who fight for freedom have the opportunity to visit the Pentagon Memorial and remember the sacrifices that were made on September 11, 2001 is a very important part of Memorial Day and we are proud to be involved with these great organizations."
The National Memorial Day Parade showcases nearly 200 elements, including marching bands, active duty and retired military units, youth groups, and parade floats—as well as hundreds of veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Last year the parade drew over 250,000 spectators.
"We are very grateful to the American Veterans Center and Boeing for choosing to focus on and invite representatives from the Pentagon Memorial to be a part of this Memorial Day Parade," continued Laychak. "The theme of this parade is an over arching theme for all the September 11th Memorials: we honor the lives lost and we renew our pledge to never forget."
