Pentagon Memorial Fund Develops 9/11 Education Resources for 10 Year Commemoration
WASHINGTON, Sept. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pentagon Memorial Fund has re-launched its website (www.pentagonmemorial.org ) reiterating the organization's dedication to offering valuable educational resources and materials surrounding the events of September 11, 2001 and the historic significance of the Pentagon Memorial. The website redevelopment project was made possible through a very generous grant and support from the Verizon Foundation. Contents from the Pentagon Memorial website can also be accessed via Verizon's Thinkfinity.org, an interactive educational platform that provides tens of thousands of free resources for use in and out of the classroom.
The Education Resources section of the website offers lesson plans and activities designed for students from kindergarten through high school and include teacher resources and webinar experiences developed in partnership with the Smithsonian National Museum of American History.
"This website is an important step in the continuing effort of the Pentagon Memorial Fund to provide education resources to ensure that future generations have the opportunity to learn about what happened on September 11th, 2001," said James J. Laychak, president of the Pentagon Memorial Fund.
These lesson plans and activities were developed by the PMF Educators' Leadership Group as a companion to the Pentagon Memorial Fund documentary entitled, "A Nation Remembers," which tells the story of the construction of the National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial. The PMF Educators' Leadership Group is composed of educators from across the country.
Laychak continued, "By offering lesson plans and activities Pentagon Memorial Fund is helping teachers of all levels revisit this most historic and important day. I know I speak for all the families involved with the PMF when I express our sincere thanks for all the hard work that went into this effort. We hope this initiative helps ensure that we as a country never forget the importance September 11, 2001."
Many of these lesson plans and activities focus on the 'everyday heroes'—people who worked at the Pentagon and helped with the rescue operations, those involved as first responders, and the individuals who lost their lives as a result of the attack.
