In 2011, SDG&E signed 17 new power contracts with mostly solar and wind energy sources, representing 1,482 MW of capacity.   These contracts put SDG&E in a position to maintain California's 20 percent renewable portfolio requirements in the 2011 to 2013 time frame and achieve the 25 percent renewable power requirement by 2016.  SDG&E is on track to meet the state's mandate that 33 percent of its retail sales be produced from renewable energy projects by 2020.

On Wednesday, February 13, 2013 Solar POWER-GEN will bring together five industry experts to discuss collaboration between solar companies and the utility industry as part of its keynote session.  The speakers include Julia Hamm, CEO of the Solar Electric Power Association, which works within the two industries in order to facilitate win-win business plans and technical solutions to these challenges.  Jim Waring Executive Director of CleanTech San Diego will discuss how the industry will evolve as California moves forward and addresses regulatory and system-wide economic challenges of non-islanded distributed generation systems.
