Pennsylvania's U.S. Senator Toomey turned his back on working families and our communities by voting to send our jobs out of the country on a Fast Track
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 23, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale and Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder expressed their disappointment in Senator Pat Toomey for turning his back on Pennsylvania's working families and communities by once again voting for a stripped down Fast Track bill that sends jobs out of the country and contains no protections for displaced workers. The Pennsylvania AFL-CIO thanks U.S. Senator Bob Casey for his courage in standing up for Pennsylvania and America's workers by opposing Fast Track.
"We thank Senator Bob Casey for standing up and helping lead the fight in the Senate to oppose Fast Track and to continue fighting for fair trade policies that protect workers and communities. This was an important opportunity for Senator Toomey to side with Senator Casey, but instead, he again voted to send our jobs out of the country. We won't forget and we will be sure that Pennsylvania's working families remember when Senator Toomey is asking for their vote," President Bloomingdale said.
"Senator Toomey needs to stop turning his back on his constituents who overwhelmingly oppose another fast track trade deal that destroys their jobs and devastates their communities. In fact the legislation he is supporting today is even worse than the original bill, containing no protections or guarantees for those workers who lose their jobs due to unfair trade. We expect our elected officials to represent our interests and concerns not rubber stamp bad trade deals that outsource our jobs and lowers our wages," Snyder said.
"This fight is not even close to being over. We will continue fighting for fair trade policies that protects and creates good jobs and decent living standards for working families everywhere not another bad deal that keeps us in a race to the bottom," Bloomingdale said.
