Pennsylvania to Observe State Veterans Homes Week, June 8-15
HARRISBURG, Pa., June 4, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania's six veterans homes, operated by the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, will celebrate the 22nd annual State Veterans Homes Week, June 8-15.
"State Veterans Homes Week is the perfect opportunity for members of the community to visit the homes, meet some of America's honored veterans and explore various volunteer programs," said Brig. Gen. (PA) Mike Gould, the state's deputy adjutant general for veterans affairs. "It's also a time to thank the staff and volunteers of these homes who provide selfless and exceptional care for these heroes each and every day."
Special activities throughout the week will include musical entertainment, games and tournaments, field trips to local attractions, Flag Day ceremonies, carnivals and picnics.
The six homes serve more than 1,500 eligible veterans and their spouses. They include the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia, the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center in Scranton, the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home in Hollidaysburg, the Pennsylvania Soldiers and Sailors Home in Erie, the Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City, and the Southwestern Veterans Center in Pittsburgh.
