Pennsylvania State Police Earn Federal Motor Carrier Safety Award
HARRISBURG, Pa., May 9, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania State Police was recently presented with the 2012 Safety Enforcement Improvement Award by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
The award recognizes the state that demonstrates the greatest improvement to its truck safety enforcement program in terms of cost efficiency and traffic enforcement.
"This achievement is truly a great honor for the Pennsylvania State Police and our motor carrier enforcement partners," said State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan.
More than 100,000 trucks were inspected across the state in 2011, representing a 35 percent increase over the number inspections performed just three years ago.
"Safety is of the highest importance to us. The efforts of our state's Motor Carrier Enforcement personnel have been instrumental in suppressing safety violations that could lead to serious crashes, helping to save countless lives and protect property across Pennsylvania,'' Noonan added.
Noonan credited the state's success to the strong safety commitment made by Pennsylvania's law enforcement community, including motor carrier officers assigned to the Pennsylvania State Police, the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and numerous municipal police agencies.
The award was presented at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration annual leadership conference, which was attended by representatives of commercial vehicle enforcement agencies from all 50 states.
